Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) is a federal entitlement program that assists U.S. workers who have lost or may lose their jobs as a result of foreign trade. The program goal is to provide eligible workers with opportunities to obtain the skills, credentials, resources, and support necessary to become reemployed as quickly as possible.
Workers eligible for TAA benefits are determined by certification from the United States Department of Labor (USDOL). The certification process is initiated by a petition filed by a group of three or more workers, the worker’s employer, union officials representing the workers, or state workforce agencies (including Michigan Works!).
