Keaton joined the Young Professional Program in July 2020 as an In-School Youth. She was enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Chamberlain University with big dreams of becoming a Registered Nurse but was overwhelmed by the high cost of tuition. She was seeking tuition assistance, mentoring and support to successfully complete the program.

Keaton faced many obstacles on her journey to completing school, including disruptions and adjustments to her program due to the pandemic. She worked multiple jobs while in school and received tuition assistance and other support from the YP program including tires and gas to safely travel to campus in Troy, help with the cost of books, and incentives when she reached milestones toward her goal.

Keaton graduated from Chamberlain University with her BSN degree in December 2023 and obtained her RN license in March 2024. She is employed at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital as nurse, making over $35 per hour and loves her job.

"Michigan Works! has been wonderful program! Not only has it helped me financially, it has also provided me with resources to help me succeed within my nursing program. Nursing school was hard but Michigan Works! helped me through it and provided me with the support I needed to finish and build my dream career!”
