Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform tasks involving physical labor at highway/road and heavy construction project sites.
• Will operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Dig dirt using shovels and machinery.
• May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials.
• Read grades, lift, and carry objects & materials of various weights.
• Practice safety at all times, including driving of company vehicles or use of equipment. Use PPE while on jobsites e.g., hard hat safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.
• Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done.
• May be required, as needed, to regulate traffic on jobsites.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid license and means of transportation, CDL helpful.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Clean driving record for past 5 years.
• Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Ability to complete tasks like handling power tools, raking and shoveling as needed.
• Ability to take direction and work together in a team setting.
• Ability and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
• Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and unexpected longer hours when necessary.
• Good work ethic, punctuality, and alertness.
• Building and Construction– Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads helpful.
• Ability to follow all company, DOT and MIOSHA safety rules.

Pay and Benefits:

This position is a union position. Benefits are in line with the Michigan Laborers Union Agreement. The starting pay for experienced drivers is $32.02/hour with overtime opportunities.

Work Environment/Physical Abilities:

The physical abilities of this position require that an employee is able to frequently stand, climb, stoop, squat, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time. This may also require carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing, and talking. Lifting requirements may include up to 50 pounds.
