Ebony Turns a Nursing Dream Into a Career

Ebony smiles while wearing blue nursing scrubs and glasses.Ebony was only two semesters away from earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baker College when a divorce brought unexpected changes to her financial situation. Without the funds needed to finish the program, she faced the possibility of leaving school after years of hard work.

Baker College referred Ebony to Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works!, where the team helped her access training funding for her remaining two semesters. The assistance allowed her to stay enrolled, complete her nursing program, and graduate with honors.

The support continued as Ebony prepared to enter the nursing profession. Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! also helped cover fees related to the NCLEX-RN licensing exam, removing another financial barrier between Ebony and the career she had worked toward.

“Because of Michigan Works, I was able to achieve my goals and see all my hard work pay off,” Ebony said. “Thank you to the Michigan Works staff who assisted me on this journey.”

Ebony now works full time as a registered nurse at a local hospital, earning $34 per hour. Through training funding and assistance with exam fees, Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! helped her complete her education and begin the nursing career she had worked so hard to achieve.
