Mariah was building a career as a behavioral health aide through Quality Care Rehabilitation Professionals’ registered apprenticeship program when transportation problems and an academic setback created barriers to completing the program.
Her role requires frequent travel between offices and to clients’ homes. When her vehicle developed serious mechanical issues, the cost of repairs created a significant barrier to performing her job safely and remaining in the apprenticeship program.
Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! provided Mariah with financial assistance for the necessary vehicle repairs, allowing her to continue meeting her job responsibilities and working toward program completion.
Mariah also faced an academic setback after falling just short of a passing grade in a Macomb Community College course. She reached out to Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! Apprenticeship Specialist Victoria, who coordinated with the college’s apprenticeship team as Mariah prepared to retake the exam.
Mariah passed the exam on her next attempt, an academic achievement that kept her moving forward in the program. After overcoming both challenges, she officially completed her registered apprenticeship.
Mariah said the Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! team made her feel supported and took a personal interest in helping her succeed. Her determination, combined with support from Quality Care Rehabilitation Professionals, Macomb Community College, and Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works!, helped her overcome each barrier and reach an important career milestone.
