Anthony had been working in the tool and die industry for nearly 39 years when he was notified that his company was affected by layoffs and his services were no longer needed. He learned about Michigan Works! resources during his Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program orientation and requested one-on-one assistance from employment services staff. He shared that he was nervous to start the job-seeking process as he did not have a resume and felt that his interview skills needed improvement. He also felt that age would be a barrier to his success.
Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! employment services staff guided him through the resume-building process, highlighting his skills and experience to create a resume that would grab a potential employer’s eye. Our staff also conducted a mock interview for Anthony, helping him practice the tough questions he might encounter. He was provided with examples and advice on how to use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method, which allowed him to use problem-solving and real-life examples to create concise and effective responses. After his session with employment services, Anthony felt confident and ready to master his job search.
During his second RESEA, Anthony shared that he had secured employment and thanked the Michigan Works! staff for their assistance.
