New Hope for Refugee

Clinton Township Career Center
Submitted by Tracy Astor

Dmitrii, his wife, and two-year old son came to the United States as refugees from Ukraine. Sponsored by a local church, the family was temporarily living in the church basement. Engaged in Partnership, Accountability, Training, and Hope (PATH) activities leading to employment, Dmitrii participated in job readiness and attended English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. In anticipation of car ownership, Dmitrii obtained a Michigan driver’s license but used PATH provided bus tickets for job search in the meantime.

Dmitrii was able to move his family into an apartment when he gained full-time employment with McDonald’s. He is currently in the process of purchasing a car with assistance from PATH. Dmitrii then plans to explore other employment opportunities that were out of reach due to transportation limitations. Future plans include owning and operating a catering company with his wife.
