Job Description

CLASSIFICATION DETAILS

Part-time nurses in the Immunization Program provide immunization assessment, education and immunization administration to infants, children, adolescents and adults of all ages. They are scheduled as needed to support the three Immunization clinics in the Mt. Clemens/Central Health Center, Warren/Southwest Health Center and St. Clair Shores/Southeast Family Resource Center.  They may also be assigned to provide immunizations in the Health department’s WIC clinics and offsite community flu clinics. Previous immunization assessment and administration experience preferred.

HIRING AUTHORITY: Director/Health Officer

F.L.S.A. STATUS: Non-Exempt

CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME:  Up to 29 hours per week.  The starting time for this position is currently 8:30 a.m.

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to a probationary period.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction, provides direct nursing services, acts as a team leader in a clinical, geographic, or programmatic area; assists in orientation programs; performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct nursing care in an assigned area, using appropriate authorized nursing skills.

Teaches, consults and acts as public health resource person to individuals, families, community groups and other health care professionals.

Documents appropriate data, activities and outcomes in the client records, utilizing the required recording format.

Works with clients to assess their needs, provide information or assistance and resolve problems.

Assists in coordinating the activities of an assigned clinic and/or program area.

Participates on selected agency committees as directed.

Participates in the orientation of staff.

Generates, evaluates and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions or solve a problem.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Nursing diploma or an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse, or be in the process of securing Michigan licensure
  • A minimum of one (1) year of professional nursing experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Previous public health or community health nursing experience

  • Nursing principles and practices, and also assigned clinical or programmatic practices
  • Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other technology applications

  • Communicate highly complex information to people with varying levels of knowledge
  • Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
  • Speak and understand a language other than English (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian) is preferred

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other professionals, clients and the public
  • Conduct oneself with tact and courtesy
