Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment vehicles that perform excavation, removal, spreading, leveling and compaction of material
  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with company and Michigan OSHA safety standards
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance of equipment
  • Writes up or communicates repair requests to mechanics
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to others on the crew and possibly with the public
  • Assists with other given tasks as needed
  • Practice good safety habits at all times, including driving of company vehicles or use of equipment. Use PPE while on jobsites e.g., hard hat safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.

Qualifications

  • Valid license and means of transportation, CDL helpful
  • Clean driving record for past 5 years
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Ability to complete tasks like handling power tools, raking and shoveling as needed
  • Ability to take direction and work together in a team setting
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team
  • Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and unexpected longer hours when necessary
  • Good work ethic, punctuality, and alertness
  • Building and Construction– Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads helpful
  • Ability to follow all company, DOT and MIOSHA safety rules

Pay and Benefits:

This position is a union position. Benefits are in line with the Michigan Operating Engineers Union Agreement. The starting pay for experienced drivers is $38.86/hour with overtime opportunities.

Work Environment/Physical Abilities:

The physical abilities of this position require that an employee is able to frequently sit, stand, climb, stoop, squat, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time. This may also require carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing, and talking. Lifting requirements may include up to 50 pounds.
