Nearly three years following completion of training, former Michigan Works! participant, Andorra, provided the career planner with her career update. Laid off as a Sales Development Representative in 2019, she had been unhappy with cold calling and sales jobs. Looking to return to school but without a huge student loan, Andorra was able to enroll in training with tuition assistance from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Andorra completed a fourteen-week software development bootcamp at Tech Elevator. She says, “Immediately out of bootcamp I was able to get my first software development job at United Wholesale Mortgage. I spent over two years there, getting two promotions and two merit raises.”

“I recently left for PureCars, accepting a significant pay bump and the ability to work fully remote. I went from dead-end jobs, depression, and the inability to support my family to a person that is happy, and thankful; with a huge career trajectory and the time and money to support my family both financially and by being present. I have even had the time to mentor other women that are going through what I’d been through. The past three years has more than doubled my income, given me a huge network, and cut all commute time. And this is just the beginning. I’m still just a Software Developer 1. I can’t be more thankful for the advice and help that I got from Michael. He’s fantastic.”
