Long time Port Huron resident, Dan Beeler, fell on hard times after losing his equipment maintenance position in 2018. It came to the point where Mr. Beeler found himself living in a homeless shelter without transportation and with a phone about to be disconnected.
Throughout these challenges, Mr. Beeler had two things working in his favor; his persistence and Michigan Works! For several months he made the three-mile walk a couple of times each week for job search assistance with Employment Services staff. Lacking computer skills, Mr. Beeler relied on the assistance of Michigan Works! staff for résumé development, completing online job applications, and employment listings.
All the hours invested and miles walked to the Career Center, finally paid off. Mr. Beeler accepted a job offer as a counter attendant in the parts department with O’Reilly Auto Parts. Since then, he also found better housing arrangements.
Dan Beeler says “I really, really appreciate the ladies here. I couldn’t have done it without them!”
