Career Begins with Job Training

Career Begins with Job Training

Clinton Township Career Center
Submitted by Michael Draheim

Just ahead of the pandemic, Daniel was laid off from General Motors and the timing made it difficult for finding new work in 2020. But GM workers were certified for reemployment services and benefits through the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Act and Daniel decided to take the opportunity to update his skills with short-term training. He enrolled in an online certificate program in Applied Project Management with Villanova University which was 100% funded with TAA training funds. Daniel said the education not only helped his career prospects but also gave him a much-needed boost of morale and a sense of accomplishment.

In early 2022, Daniel returned to work at another automotive plant but the seven days per week and 9 to 10 hour shifts left his work/life balance depleted and unsatisfied. The Career Planner, Michael, knew Daniel was doing what he needed to get by and continued to support his job search by providing job openings, résumé tips, interview coaching and advice. Daniel is now employed as an IT Manager and shares, “I finally found my dream job working with the State of Michigan and I have Michael Draheim and Michigan Works! to thank for that accomplishment. Now, my family is better off than we have ever been before.”
