Breanna’s Road to Code

Breanna smiling in a close-up photo, wearing glasses and a black jacketBreanna had a clear goal, to build a future in a new field, even without prior work experience. When she connected with the Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! Young Professionals program in January 2024, she knew she needed guidance, support, and training to get started.

One of Breanna’s first challenges was improving her CASAS scores so she could qualify for training. Through dedicated self-study, she strengthened her skills and raised her scores, which allowed her to enroll in Medical Billing and Coding training through MedCerts. She excelled in the program, completing it in March 2025 and earning an industry-recognized credential after passing her certification exams.

With her certification in hand, Breanna turned her focus to employment. The Young Professionals team supported her with resume development and interview preparation, helping her present herself confidently to employers. The job search required patience and persistence, but she never gave up. Breanna secured a full-time position as a coding specialist at Henry Ford Medical Center.

Breanna credits the program with helping her stay focused and supported throughout her journey. She shared:

“The Young Professionals program has been really helpful. The process is simple and easy to understand, and the support has made a difference.”

Today, Breanna is thriving in her new role and proud of the progress she has made. She developed strong study habits, built confidence, and overcame challenges related to limited resources and work experience. Her story reflects how the right support and determination can help young professionals take meaningful steps toward a stable career.
