For Eliza, an apprenticeship was the perfect opportunity to expand her skill set and advance in the competitive healthcare industry. She had always dreamed of continuing her education, but financial difficulties made it challenging. Thanks to the apprenticeship model—along with support from her employer, Michigan Works!, and her college—Eliza was finally able to move forward.
“This program has given me the chance to grow professionally without the financial burden that would have otherwise held me back,” Eliza said.
One of the greatest benefits of her apprenticeship has been the support system built into the program. With guidance from mentors at the clinic, she’s been able to access college resources right at work—registering for classes, navigating the school portal, and staying on track with her academic goals.
Since starting the apprenticeship, Eliza has already gained valuable workplace skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. She’s also looking ahead to new learning opportunities. “So far, the technical skills I’ve learned have been really helpful, but I’m looking forward to attending more classes to expand my knowledge even further,” she shared.
Eliza’s ultimate goal is to build a career in Medical Billing & Coding. Alongside her apprenticeship, she is enrolled in a Coding Professional program, working toward her Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification, which she plans to complete by 2026. With clear goals and a strong support network, she’s confident in her future.
“I can’t wait to see everything come together at the end of my apprenticeship,” Eliza said.
