Loss of Job Leads to Higher Wage

Lobna entered the Partnership, Accountability, Training and Hope (PATH) program in August of 2020 following the loss of her job. She knew immediately that she wanted to take the PATH training opportunity to reach her employment goal in nursing. While researching nursing schools, Lobna participated in job readiness activities and barrier identification in preparation for training. There was a delay in training as she struggled to get a copy of her high school diploma from Iraq but was finally able to enroll in the Practical Nurse program at Dorsey College. PATH provided funding for tuition, testing fees, and clothing costs associated with school admission.
The one-year training was not without its challenges for Lobna. Attending school full- time with outside study hours, she also worked part-time as a translator, cared for her two school-aged children and managed healthcare for her husband. In true Lobna style, she overcame these challenges with strength, determination, and grace. She successfully passed the licensing exam on her first attempt.
Lobna was hired as an LPN/Wound Care Nurse at a rehabilitation and long-term care facility where she has been employed for the last seven months earning $34 per hour. Lobna has now set a new goal to continue the career pathway and enroll in an LPN to RN bridge program.
