We are currently looking for a Steel Handler/Receiving for our Sterling Heights, MI facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving a hi-lo and using an overhead crane to support the material handling activities in the plant and loading/unloading steel trucks within a structured formalized team.
This is a 2nd Shift Position. (1 pm-9 pm)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Operate a hi-lo to load and unload trucks
· Operate a hi-lo to rotate stock for purposes of ensuring proper lot rotation and
usage
· Scan and verify shipments incoming and outgoing to manifest
· Ensure containers are properly labeled
· Deliver steel to the presses and load steel into de-coilers
· Remove steel from de-coilers, re-band, and store as needed
· Deliver and remove tubs from presses as needed
· Perform basic housekeeping to keep the area clean and safe
· Prepare paperwork as required
· Various other duties as required by the department

Experience
One to Two years of material handling experience in a manufacturing environment or warehouse
Skills
Operate a Hi-Lo and industrial scale
Ability to follow established procedures
Ability to judge distances, and speed of moving objects, and the ability to lift and move stacked pallets and containers efficiently
Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking ability
Knowledge of IATF 16949 quality standards and ISO
Problem-solving skills sufficient to address both routine and non-routine problems
Communication skills to interact with employees, customers, and suppliers in a professional manner
Computer literacy skills include the ability to perform basic data entry, scanning, and operating visual ‘touchscreen display panels
Math skills sufficient to perform department-related tasks are required
Ability to work effectively with people
Licensure
Hi-Lo License
Safety
Safety glasses & hearing protection are required. Other safety equipment is required on an as-needed basis.
Work Environment
This position’s working environment and physical requirements are typical of a manufacturing environment, warehouse, and shipping dock. Exposure to weather when unloading trucks and transporting material outdoors and between plants
Physical Demands
This position’s working environment and physical requirements are typical of a manufacturing environment, warehouse, and shipping dock. The job requires very frequent visual effort and concentration, and extensive driving of hi-los. The ability to lift 40 pounds is required. The work requires regular sitting, standing, and moving about, and involves a variety of physical activities.
